Where poker in Vietnam stands in 2026

A decade ago, poker in Vietnam mostly meant a private game behind a closed door. The map looks different now: poker sits under the mind-sport umbrella, registered clubs run open schedules in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and international series — APT, WPT, USOP — have brought stops to Da Nang, Ha Long and Phu Quoc. Vietnamese players no longer have to fly to Manila or Jeju to find a serious field.

The distinction that matters most is tournament versus cash game. A tournament has a fixed buy-in, a blind structure published in advance, a printed payout table, and it ends when one player holds every chip — it runs like a sporting event with a rulebook. A cash game converts chips to money pot by pot. Everything on this page is about tournaments. If a venue invites you to play but cannot show you the structure, the rules and the payouts in writing, treat that as a reason to walk away.

On infrastructure, Hanoi has the highest concentration of clubs: Center Point, Royal, Grand Loyal, Heaven and Quads all run weekly tournament schedules. Ho Chi Minh City has fewer rooms but a higher average buy-in. What the worthwhile venues share is a real street address, a schedule published at least a week ahead, trained floor and dealing staff, and payouts that do not move once registration closes.

If you are starting out, the order is: watch a session before you register, pick a buy-in no larger than 5% of what you are prepared to lose across a full year, and read the blind structure closely enough to know how many hands you actually get. Most beginners lose not because they played badly but because they picked the wrong event — a fast structure with a short starting stack leaves almost no room for skill to show up.
